Text2Donate - Twilio Integration
With our Twilio Integration, you can ask donors to text a keyword to a phone number. When they do, Donate2 send back a link to a Donate2 form. Once the form is loaded, your donors are just one-click away from making a donation.
1. Create your Twilio account
You can create your Twilio account here: https://www.twilio.com/try-twilio
2. Acquire an SMS phone number from Twilio
You will purchase a phone number from Twilio. Typically, it is $1 to $2 a month. You can choose from a list of phone numbers and select one with your local area code. From the dashboard you can click on the # menu and the "Buy a Number". The rest is pretty easy.

3. Copy your Account SID and Auth Token into your 2 Account
From your Twilio account dashboard you will see the Account SID and you will need to click the "view" link to see the Auth Token. Copy them so you can paste them into your 2Account.
4. Paste your Account SID and Auth Token into your 2Account
Once you've entered your Account SID and Auth Token into Donate2, click the "Save API Connection" button.
5. Configure your Text2Donate Keyword and form link
- Enter a Keyword (case insensitive)
- Select a Phone Number
- Select a Form
- Enter a Reply Message
- Enter an optional Vanity URL
For this to work, you must set this up outside of Donate2, it's not automatic or magic. Typically, this is done by making an edit to your website to handle your Vanity URL but then redirect it to your Donate2 form.
6. Test your phone number and keyword
Do what a donor will do... Text your keyword to your phone number to make sure everything looks good and works correctly.
- The message is sent back to the donor's phone and they tap or click on the link
- The Donate2 form will load and a donation can be made.
7. Promote the phone number and keyword
Let the world know you are accepting donations with SMS and let them see how easy it is.
8. What does Text2Donate actually do
Donate2 uses your Twilio Integration to simply reply to keywords sent to your Twilio purchased phone number. That's it. We don't offer formal opt-in and opt-out, broadcasts messaging nor do we follow up with your donors in any way via SMS. Donate2 does not collect phone numbers or email address through SMS.
9. Legal compliance requirements for Opt-in Opt-out via SMS
By default, Text2Donate uses Twilio to handle standard English-language reply messages such as STOP, UNSTOP, UNSUBSCRIBE or CANCEL for Toll-Free and Long Code messages, in accordance with industry standards. These keywords trigger automatic standard replies from Twilio.
Notice: Text messages may be subject to various legal compliance requirements depending on the nature of your text messaging, the location from where you are sending your text messages, and the location of your recipients. While Twilio will handle the above-described messages on long codes and Toll-Free numbers in the way described in this article, you should consult with your legal counsel to ensure that your text messaging conforms to all applicable legal compliance requirements.
